The Three Rs

I enjoy sauteed mushrooms on a steak or burger. I love a tasty pizza with mushrooms nestled in warm, bubbly cheese. I prefer my salads sprinkled with slices of fresh, raw mushroom. But even I, a confirmed mushroom lover, have my limits. And this unusually cool and rainy summer is pushing them.

Mushrooms of every size, color, and texture are sprouting up in the soggy ground. And they are not pretty.

This tiny thing hiding in the grass isn't too bad.
It almost looks like a little button mushroom.

These toadstools are a bit scary with their poisonous red color.

This flat fungus is downright disgusting . . .

. . . and this slimy cluster is positively revolting.
Make that repulsive.
Also, repugnant.

Dinner last night: chicken pot pie, without mushrooms

I used to like mushrooms. After reading this post, I'm not so sure any more... BLECH.

The poisonous toadstools are kind of pretty, in a picturesque sort of way.

But I'm not sure I'd like to see those everywhere I look.

Good pics.

I'd have to say I feel AMBIVALENT about mushrooms. ; )

My kids won't play in parts of the yard because they're worried they will die if they step on a toadstool. I've finally convinced them they won't be poisoned through their feet.

I love mushrooms. We never see them around here, I guess it's too hot and dry.

I lived in a basement apartment once and we discovered a mushroom growing up through the carpet.

THAT was really gross!

Awwww, you are being too hard on our dear fungi! I am a mushroom freak..I just love 'em. Last fall I went to a three day Fungi Fair, and learned a ton. Even grew a ton of oyster mushrooms in my bathroom.
Those are great pictures though. Chena just took a bunch of mushroom pics for entering in the fair. They certainly are everywhere this year. :)
