Treehouse Fun

I always wanted a treehouse when I was a kid, so I was majorly disappointed when we moved into our home a few years ago and my children, my own flesh and blood, showed absolutely zero interest in the cool fort already built into the birches. When I asked the older girls why they were such spoiled, rotten brats who didn't appreciate their awesome treehouse, they confided that it scared them. It was dark. And full of spiders. What I considered awesome, they thought was haunted and creepy.

I shared this news with my husband, who set about de-terrifying the treehouse. First, he bug-bombed the place thoroughly. (In the process, he found an active yellow jackets' nest. Maybe my daughters aren't so spoiled and rotten after all. Maybe they actually possess an innate sense of self-preservation. I'll have to give that some thought.) Then he power-washed the inside within an inch of its life and let the girls go at the walls with some white paint. Next, he cut out three big windows and covered them in plexiglass. Voila! The treehouse is now clean, bug-free, and full of light.

Ready for happy, fright-free children.

Welcome to my playhouse!
Now get out.

Every girl needs a place to daydream . . .

. . . and a rope to climb!

Dinner last night: ham, mashed potatoes

That's a great treehouse! My best griend in elementary school had the coolest treehouse in the world. Her dad was a builder so it was all state-of-the-art with air conditioning and everything. he let her paint it with big neon flowers - I'm sure the neighbors were pleased!

My boys are always asking for a tree house, but we just don't have a good place to build one. We had one when I was a kid, but it wasn't structurally sound, so it made my parents extremely nervous. It definitely wasn't as cute as yours.

Awesome! I'd be so excited to have that in our yard. Bug bombing does seem pretty necessary though.

I had a treehouse as a kid and it was our favorite place. It was right beside my grandmother's fig tree and when they were ripe, we would just lean out the windows and pick them and eat until we were totally sticky and itchy from sap, but full of their sweet goodness. My husband bought me a fig tree to plant at our new house because he knows how much that memory means to me. He even planted it next to my daughter's play house.

How fun! My girls want a tree house, but our subdivision is so new that there aren't any big, sturdy trees.

My dad bought me a playhouse because he wanted me to have one, and then got mad at me for never playing in the playhouse I didn't ask for. But it was full of spiders, too. And, at some point, as wasp nest. Gross!

I think I would have spent more time in it if it was in a tree.

I'm moving up to be your neighbor, and sending my Kennedy Kaboodle to play in the tree house.

I LOVE it, and I always wanted one when I was young!
