Out of Commission

My 9-year-old daughter broke her left arm on Saturday morning.

Whenever something awful happens to one of my children, I do not take pictures. I do not journal. Later, when they're all better, when the event has evolved into a great story, when perspective and optimism have been restored, I wish I had something other than my panic-filled memories to help me document the experience. I'm not even close to that point, however.

I'm not ready to tell the story until I know her arm's going to be alright, and that won't be for another week when the orthopedic surgeon checks her again, when the swelling has gone down, when the arm is ready to go into a hard cast. I may not even be ready to tell the story for a couple of months, after the hard cast comes off and the physical therapy is complete. Actually, I don't know if I ever want to talk about it.

My husband snapped a picture on the ER doctor's cell phone right before my daughter went into surgery. That's all I can stand for now.

Dinner last night: spaghetti and meatballs

Ouch. She's a beautiful little girl. I'm not a mom but it bothers me immensely seeing that, so I can only imagine.

oh NO. I'm so sorry. She looks so sweet and vulnerable in that picture. I would be a wreck too, I cannot handle it when my chidren hurt. Keep us posted. Praying for a quick and uncomplicated recovery for her. HOw did she break it?

Hugs to you, as Momma's we hurt for them almost as much as they do sometimes when things happen to them. =(

Just chiming in with solidarity - we have been in your shoes several times now. Sending out a prayer that she's not in too much pain.

And remember Romans 8:28 - "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him..." even though we can't always see His purpose when we're in the middle of such things.

Oh poor pumpkin! (Our She-Twin broke her arm TWICE within 8 weeks when she was 2...I still don't talk about it much!)

Wishing her a speedy recovery, and you some peace. :)

Oh my gosh! I hope she is recovering comfortably now! Poor sweetie! That makes me hurt!

I completely understand what you are saying. I cannot write about family crises until we are out of the weeds.
